WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Middle hitter Stephanie Lynch graduated from Purdue just over two weeks ago and now she is embarking on the next chapter of her life and volleyball career, having signed a contract to play professionally for the Neuchatel team in Switzerland.
Lynch is set to join Neuchatel (www.nucvolleyball.ch) this week. The team is midway through its 2009-10 season, which lasts through the end of March, and in the midst of Swiss Cup and league competition.
"I am excited and a little nervous," Lynch said. "I haven't played in a while, so I am a little nervous about that, but I am mostly excited to try something new. We start training on January 1st and play our first match of the new year on Jan. 9th. It should be fun."
The New Albany, Ind., native, met her teammates, including former Minnesota setter Rachel Hartmann, and played a few matches with them in early December before returning to the United States to wrap up her collegiate obligations.
Neuchatel is the a city of just over 32,000 residents, located on Lake Neuchatel in the northwestern part of Switzerland. The city is also known as Neuenburg.
Lynch made an impact on the Boilermaker program, garnering first team All-America honors in 2008, becoming the first Purdue player to do so since 1985, while also rewriting the statistical record books. During her Boilermaker career from 2005-08, the two-time honorable mention All-American and three-time All-Big Ten selection set career marks for block assists (550), total blocks (660) and hitting percentage (.351) and season records for hitting percentage and block assists.
