Dec. 12, 2007

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Junior middle hitter Stephanie Lynch earned Honorable Mention All-America honors from the American Volleyball Coaches Association for the second straight year, the AVCA announced on Wednesday.

The accolade caps a season which saw Lynch lead the Boilermakers to a 19-14 record with a team-best 1.38 blocks per game, a team-high .318 hitting percentage and 3.53 kills per game. She also earned AVCA All-Mideast Region and All-Big Ten honors for the second-straight season in 2007.

Lynch's selection marks the third straight Honorable Mention All-America accolade for a Boilermaker player: Lynch (2006, 2007) and setter Renata Dargan (2005).

She surpassed the 1,000-kill milestone on Nov. 2 vs. No. 1 Penn State and made her way into the Purdue career top five for hitting percentage, block assists, solo blocks and total blocks. Lynch trails block assist record holder Kim McConaha by just six stuffs. She ranks second in hitting percentage (.328), third in block assists (376), fourth in total blocks (464) and fifth in solo blocks (88), while her 1.30 blocks per game average ranks second all-time. Lynch also earned herself a spot among the single-season top 10 for block assists (4th with 129), total blocks (6th with 166) and solo blocks (10th with 37).

Lynch posted a career-high 15 blocks against Utah, a tally which is just one off the Purdue school record. She registered double-digit kill tallies 23 times, including 20 or more four times. The junior led the team in blocks 23 times and in kills on 12 occasions. She has registered a hitting percentage of .300 or better 17 times, a hitting percentage of .400 or better 11 times and hitting percentage above .500 six times.

In conference play, the New Albany, Ind., native tallied 3.24 kills per game on a team-best .289 hitting effort, while racking up 1.51 blocks per game. The preseason All-Big Ten selection also earned Defensive Player of the Week honors from the conference on Nov. 5.

Among conference players in 2007, Lynch ranks fifth in blocks per game, eighth in hitting percentage and 10th in points per game (4.45). In Big Ten play, she ranked fifth in blocks per game with 1.51 stuffs per stanza. During the non-conference season, Lynch was named MVP of the Big Orange Bash and garnered all-tournament team honors at the Mortar Board Premier.

Purdue finished the year 19-14, including an 11-9 mark in the Big Ten, good for third place in the league. The team will celebrate its 2007 campaign at its annual postseason banquet on Jan. 19.
