WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The No. 20 Purdue volleyball team earned an at-large bid to the 2013 NCAA Tournament and will play Central Arkansas in Columbia, Mo., later this week. This is the Boilermakers' fourth straight NCAA appearance, the 16th in program history and ninth in the last 10 years.
Rounding out the four-team pool in are IUPUI and host Missouri. The teams are in the Champaign, Ill., Regional bracket.
Purdue has advanced to the NCAA second round in all eight of its most recent postseason opportunities, including six Sweet 16s and an Elite Eight appearance in 2010. The Boilermakers have advanced to the Sweet 16 each of the last three years.
Purdue is in elite company when it comes to postseason success in recent years as one of just six teams with six or more Sweet 16 berths in the last eight seasons. The Boilermakers also are one of just 11 teams to advance to the NCAA second round in eight of the last nine years.
The 20th-ranked Boilermakers (20-11, 11-9 Big Ten) ended the regular season on a four-match win streak, most recently posting a five-set win over No. 19 Michigan State Saturday night. Purdue topped six ranked opponents in 2013, as well as eight teams that were named to the NCAA Tournament field. Eight Big Ten teams were named to the 64-team field.
