WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - As part of our countdown to the season, we will give you the inside scoop on one of our 16 players. With two days left until the home opener, we introduce senior Val Nichol, a 6-1 setter/outside hitter from Normal, Ill.

A third team All-America selection in 2013, Nichol did it all for the Boilermakers, posting 2.77 kills, 6.03 assists and 1.79 digs per set to go with 21 aces. She garnered All-Northeast Region honors and All-Big Ten selection and was named to the NCAA Champaign Regional all-tournament team. Nichol recorded two triples doubles and added 20 double-double efforts as well. She led the Purdue offense in 18 matches and led the team in digs and blocks twice each. She also helped the Purdue hitters to a .250 or better hitting percentage in 15 matches.

The Academic All-Big Ten honoree has played in 100 matches, racking up 760 kills, 193 blocks and 1000 assists. The daughter of John and Donna Nichol will face her sister Bailey across the net when Purdue takes on Morehead State Sept. 19.
