WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Senior libero Anne Mastandrea was named Co-Defensive Player of the Week by the Big Ten for her performances at the Duke Invitational last weekend.

Mastandrea receives her second career honor after setting a school record for digs in a four-game match with a career-high 31 saves against Winthrop on Friday. With the performance, the senior became just the third Boilermaker in program history to post 30 or more digs twice in her career. On the weekend, Mastandrea posted 83 saves over 11 games for 7.55 digs-per-game average and is now just 10 away from reaching 1,000 in her career. The Downers Grove, Ill., native also converted on 96 percent of her service opportunities, including a perfect 30-for-30 mark against Winthrop. The three 20-plus dig efforts boost Mastandrea's career 20-plus dig tally to 19 and her double-figure dig performances to 41.

The Player of the Week honor is the second of Mastandrea's career, as she earned Defensive Player of the Week accolades on Oct. 10, 2005.

Mastandrea shares the weekly defensive honor with Michigan's Stesha Selsky. Penn State's Christa Harmotto earned Player of the Week honors.

The No. 13 Boilermakers (2-1) return to action on Friday, when they host Dayton, North Carolina and Utah for the 17th-annual Mortar Board Premier. Tournament action begins at 4:30 p.m. Friday when Utah takes on North Carolina. Day 1 will close with a 7 p.m. match between Dayton and Purdue. Day 2 features a four-match slate beginning with a 10 a.m. matchup between Purdue and North Carolina.
