WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - As part of our countdown to the season, we will give you the inside scoop on one of our 16 players. With six days left until the home opener, we introduce redshirt sophomore Kate Workman, a 5-6 defensive specialist from Valparaiso, Ind.

After earning honorable mention All-America honors and three all-conference selections as a prepster, Workman has seen limited action for the Boilermakers. She redshirted the 2012 campaign and played in 12 matches in 2013, racking up 16 digs and two aces, while making good on 95 percent of her serve receive chances.

One of two veterans in the Purdue backcourt, she looks to make an impact in 2014 and duplicate the defensive prowess that earned her Dunerland Athletic Conference and team MVP honors as a senior and helped her to the school records for digs in a match, season and career. The daughter of Matt and Kaye Workman has already found success in the classroom at Purdue, earning Academic All-Big Ten honors as a sociology major in 2013.

Let's get to know Kate a little bit better.
