WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The 2013 version of the Purdue volleyball will take on some of the program's past stars as the current team scrimmages against an all-star roster of alumni at 6 p.m. Saturday in the final warmup for the regular season.
The scrimmage is free to the public and will offer fans a chance to see their favorite players from the past 10 years, including All-Americans Stephanie Lynch Harpenau, Jaclyn Hart Groves and Renata Dargan Vonesh. Dargan, an Honorable Mention All-American at setter, was a member of the 2002 team, the first at Purdue coached by Dave Shondell.
The All-American trio will be joined by three members of Shondell's first NCAA Tournament, as defensive specialist Lauren Berg, setter Lindsay Shondell Morgan and opposite hitter Melanie Ukovich Kunz from the 2003 squad take the court.
Others slated to play for the alumni team are: outside hitter/defensive specialist Kelli Miller (2005-08) and middle blockers Kristen Arthurs (2007-10) and Anna Drewry (2009-12). Defensively, in addition to Berg, the all-star squad will feature Anne Mastandrea (2004-07), Meghan McCormick Means (2004-07), Emily Ehlers (2008-11) and Amanda Miller (2008-12).
Head coach Dave Shondell provides a snapshot of the last 10 years of Purdue volleyball.
Collectively, the Boilers have made eight NCAA Tournament appearances in the last nine seasons, including six Sweet 16 berths in the last eight years.
The No. 16 ranked 2013 squad will kick off its season at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 30 vs. No. 4 USC on the opening night of the Mortar Board Premier tournament.
