Fisher Named Assistant at College of Charleston

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The impact of Purdue volleyball continues to grow nationally as yet another former Boilermaker has joined the Division I coaching ranks. Tiffany Fisher, who played middle blocker for Purdue from 2008-2011 and was a student assistant coach in 2012, has been named as an assistant coach at the College of Charleston.

An honorable mention All-America selection, All-Mideast Region and unanimous All-Big Ten selection as a senior, Fisher led Purdue to three NCAA Tournament appearances, including two Sweet 16 berths and an Elite Eight appearance in 2010.

In her four years in the Old Gold and Black, Fisher was an efficient offensive threat, while also stopping opponents at the net. She ranks third all-time in career hitting percentage with a .322 effort, and owns the ninth-place spot in career block assists with 322. The 6-2 middle blocker also led the team in service aces each of her last two seasons.

Fisher registered an .875 hitting effort against Air Force on Sept. 2, 2011, including 14 kills in 16 errorless swings, ranking third on Purdue's individual match record list and as the best effort in a three-set match (15-19 attempts) in school history.

The Topeka, Ind., native also owns the fifth-best effort in a five-set match (15-19 attempts) as she posted a .556 percentage (12 kills and two errors in 18 swings) against Dayton on August 29, 2009.

As a senior in 2011, Fisher garnered AVCA honorable mention All-America and unanimous first team All-Big Ten honors after averaging 2.52 kills and 1.02 blocks per set, while hitting at a .394 clip and serving up 31 aces. She ranked 10th nationally in hitting percentage, while leading the Big Ten, and also posted a league-best .375 mark in conference play. Fisher posted double-digit kills in 12 matches and led the team three times, while putting up five or more blocks in 10 matches and leading the team at the net 10 times. The Preseason All-Big Ten selection also hit at a .250 or better clip in 24 matches, including .300 or better 23 times, .400 or better 19 times and .500 or better 10 times.

 

 

All told, Fisher posted double digit kills in 38 career matches and five or more blocks 25 times.She was named as the Denver Invitational MVP in 2011 and as a member of the Mortar Premier all-tournament team three times.

Fisher is the latest member of the Purdue program to join the coaching ranks. Defensive specialist Brittany Dildine is an assistant coach at Wisconsin, while defensive specialist Kelli Miller is an assistant at Ball State and outside hitter Lisa Pierce is an assistant at Samford. Former manager Kyle Shondell, who spent the 2012 season as an assistant coach at Western Illinois, was named the head coach at Rock Valley College in May.

Several student assistant and volunteer assistant coaches also have gone on to Division I positions. Keith Schunzel is now the head coach at Kennesaw State, Ken Murczek is the head coach at Wake Forest and Jason Yhost is the recently named head coach at Earlham College. Former manager and volunteer assistant Ryan Freeburg is an assistant coach at Dayton following a two-year stint at George Washington.
