WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Senior setter/outside hitter Val Nichol is competing with the U.S. Collegiate National Team at the Global Challenge in Croatia. During her stay in Europe, the Normal, Ill., native will be checking in periodically on purduesports.com.

On Friday, Nichol talked about the team's first friendly match with Croatia, travel and a newfound food of choice.

Day 3
I don't think the Croatian National Team got the "friendly" part of the friendly match last night. One of the players is making over half a million a season so I guess she's kind of all right. Regardless, we didn't walk away with the outcome we were hoping for, but we learned a lot and are ready to compete again tomorrow night!

We had a solid practice today then visited Lake Bled about two hours away from where we are staying and it was absolutely beautiful. A couple of my teammates and I struggled with the row boat we rented but it was well worth it.

I have found that I have a weakness for gelato (European ice cream)... good thing it is sold just about everywhere we go.

Tomorrow is our last full day in Maribor, Slovenia. We will practice, tour the city and compete before packing and heading to Croatia Sunday morning where we will participate in the Global Challenge.

Just trying to take in everything while I'm over here!!
