COLUMBUS, Ohio - Purdue setter/outside hitter Val Nichol picked up valuable playing experience and a gold medal as her USA White team won the Women's National Volleyball A2 Tournament on Wednesday.
Nichol's team, which went 0-3 in pool play, rallied back in the playoffs to claim the gold medal with a 25-22, 25-22, 25-23 victory over USA Gold on Wednesday at the Greater Columbus Convention Center. The tournament took place in conjunction with the USA Volleyball Girls' Junior National Championships.
Boilermaker outside hitter Ariel Turner's USA Blue Team, which was undefeated in pool play before losing to USA White in the semifinals, picked up the bronze medal with a 25-20, 22-25, 25-18, 23-25, 15-11 win over USA Red. Turner scored 12 points in the win.
Middle blocker Kierra Jones' USA Red team posted a 1-2 record in pool play, but finished out of the medals after falling to USA Gold in the semifinals and USA Blue in the final.

Purdue kicks off its 2012 season with the Mortar Board Premier on August 24-25. Season tickets are on sale now for the 2012 campaign as well as for the NCAA Regional, which the Boilermakers will host in Mackey Arena on Dec. 7-8.
