Final Stats |
Purdue Head Coach Dave Shondell
"That was as tough a match as I thought it would be. Middle Tennessee State seems to thrive on beating teams they are not supposed to beat...I continue to feel very fortunate that we do so well in five game matches.
On What he told the team in a close match...
"I kept telling them that we had to stay poised. Middle Tennessee State beats you if you let up at all. I felt we were able to stay focused during that fifth game to come out with the victory."
On Middle Tennessee State's playing style...
"They're unlike any other team we have played this season. They (Middle Tennessee State) are so quick in their movement and how they set the ball."
Kelli Miller, Senior Libero
On the overall match...
"The first set we came out on fire. We tried to set a dominate tone, but Middle Tennessee State adjusted and were able to come back. We had to then adjust in the third game and were able to put it all together for the final game."
Danita Merlau, Senior Outside Hitter
On going to the Sweet Sixteen...
"It's awesome. It has been a goal of ours the entire season and to do it against two really good teams this weekend and that will only help us as we continue on.
Kristen Arthurs, Sophomore Middle Hitter
On the setting...
"We had a few sets that seemed to work well on their blocking schemes. We tried to adjust and focus on those areas."
Middle Tennessee State head coach Matt Peck:
"It was a difficult match for us. Of our eight losses this season, five have been in five-game matches. Right at the end we shanked two passes and that was about the end of it. When we were passing well, we weren't having and trouble scoring.
On team's service errors...
"That was huge. Last night we had three service errors. Tonight, we had fifteen and they weren't even aggressive errors.
Sophomore outside hitter Izabela Kozon:
On size of Purdue's players...
"They were a taller team. It is harder to hit when the team is taller."
Junior libero Ashley Waugh:
On having family in attendance...
"I have a really big family and they all traveled up here. It's only about an hour away for them. They are very supportive of me and my team."
Junior outside hitter Ashley Mead:
On being undersized for an outside hitter...
"I think it's very funny because all my life I have been overlooked. That actually makes me play so much harder and so much better. I take a pretty fast approach and I think that's what helps a lot."
