Keith Schunzel, a two-time All-American at Ball State, joined the Purdue staff as a ‎volunteer assistant in the Spring of 2005. ‎

Schunzel, a St. Louis, Mo., native, came to Purdue after serving as an assistant coach at ‎Muncie Central High School for two years and as a club coach in Muncie and in St. Louis ‎over the last few years. ‎

Schunzel was the starting setter during all four years of his time with the men's volleyball ‎team at Ball State. While acting as team captain from 2002 to 2004, he garnered ‎numerous individual honors, including second-team All-America accolades as a senior ‎and honorable mention All-America honors his junior year. After earning second-team ‎all-Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (MIVA) honors as a freshman, ‎Schunzel finished his career with three-straight first team all-league accolades. ‎

After graduating from Ball State in 2004, Schunzel went to Europe and played ‎professionally for the VfB Friedrichshafen Club in Germany. ‎

The St. Louis University High School alumni got his start in coaching as an assistant ‎coach with the Kaepa St. Louis High Performance Boys Volleyball Club, for which he ‎worked from 2001 to 2004. In 2002, his 18-and-under team placed second in the nation. ‎He also was head coach for the 16, 18-and-under summer developmental teams in 2003-‎‎2004. ‎

During that same time period, Schunzel was an assistant coach with the Asics Munciana ‎Volleyball Club. In 2001-02, he helped guide the 16-and-under team to a fifth-place ‎national finish. In 2002-03, his 14-and-under squad also finished fifth in the nation. In ‎‎2003-04, Schunzel worked with the 18-and-under team. ‎

In 2002, Schunzel first joined forces with Purdue head coach Dave Shondell, then the ‎head coach at Muncie Central High School. Schunzel was an assistant coach on ‎Shondell's 2002 Indiana State Champion team. He then helped new head coach Wes ‎Lyons' squad to a state runner-up finish in 2003. ‎

Through the years, Schunzel has worked at numerous volleyball camps across the ‎Midwest. From 2000-2002, he helped with both boys and girls camps at Ball State. From ‎‎2001-2004, he worked at Missouri Baptist University's camps for boys and girls. Last ‎year, he helped at both the Purdue and Notre Dame summer camps. ‎

Schunzel graduated from Ball State in May of 2004 with a bachelor of science in biology.‎
