Chew and Swallow
The Purdue women’s tennis team loves to eat! Tennis teams at Purdue never get the chance to experience training table like other sports teams, so we make up for it on our road trips. Not only does our team have a wide range of character, but we also have different palate preferences.

If our coach, Mat, could have his way, we would eat at only the best Italian restaurants and delis. However, while Italian reigns supreme, we definitely get variety. Lynsey, Gretchen, and Missy really enjoy seafood. Lynsey and Gretchen usually go for fish (mainly salmon), while Missy gets the shrimp hook up. The rest of the team varies from all kinds of pasta to chicken fingers. Lara would order steak and potatoes for every meal, but her mom insists that she has eaten enough red meat to last her a lifetime. Lara’s mom is not the only person who has pleaded for us to have a healthier diet.

Unfortunately, the time of the food journal has passed, since we realized this team has a sweet tooth. We thought we had died and gone to Heaven when we went to Ghirardelli Square over Spring Break. Melissa Iqbal lives for any apple pie concoction, and many teammates love a good piece of chocolate cake (with a giant scoop of vanilla ice cream)! Mat left the University Club in Iowa happy with his giant stick of Toblerone. I live for a piece of carrot cake, while Lara will only eat a piece of cheesecake from Delitalia.

Our team has a voracious appetite. Sometimes, an entrée is not enough and dessert is necessary. We are hungry, and this has become apparent when we play. We wish we could consume teams like we consume food – chew and swallow!
