WEST LAFATTE, Ind. - Born in Ukraine and raised in Canada, Anya Dushkina's next stop will be Purdue University to play for the Boilermakers' tennis team. Dushkina recently signed her National Letter of Intent and is one of three prospective student athletes comprising head coach Laura Glitz' first recruiting class at Purdue. "Anya is an aggressive baseline player with great foot speed," said Glitz. "Her dedication, commitment and competitive attitude will add a lot to our program. I look for her to impact the singles line up." A senior at St. Theresa of Lisieux High School (Richmond Hill, Ont.), Dushkina is regarded as one of Canada's best players whether in singles or doubles. At the most recent Canadian National Championships, Dushkina placed among the top 12 in singles and was a doubles semifinalist. Closer to home at the Ontario Provincial Championships, Dushkina won the doubles title and placed third in singles. She is currently the third ranked player in Ontario. Dushkina and her teammates won the team trophy at Canadian Nationals during her sophomore (grade 10) year. That same season, Dushkina attained a No. 8 national ranking in both singles and doubles. Dushkina is the daughter of Slava and Svetlana Dushkina, who were both student-athletes at Kharkiv State Polytechnic University. Father, Slava, competed for the track and field team, and her mother, Svetlana, was a gymnast. Dushkina has an older sister, Viktoriya, who is a student at York University. Dushkina's Vitals
