WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Mara Schmidt and Krisztina Kapitany will represent the Purdue women’s tennis team at the USTA/ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships hosted by the University of Memphis at The Racquet Club of Memphis. Both players were selected to the Main Draw singles and doubles. Competition for the Boilermakers will begin on Saturday.
The 12th-ranked duo received the No. 1 seed in the Main Draw doubles. They open Saturday at 8 a.m. ET in the Round of 32 against Nayara Moraes and Sarah Sediri of Middle Tennessee State. The Round of 16 will be contested starting at 9:30 a.m. Schmidt and Kapitany are joined by four other ranked pairs, Nos. 32, 51, 56 and 58, in the draw.
One round of Main Draw singles will take place Saturday. Kapitany will look make a mark early as she faces fifth-seeded Julia Fellerhoff of Louisville in the Round of 64 at 1 p.m. Schmidt, ranked 125th nationally, was awarded the No. 4 seed. The senior hailing from Bradenton, Fla., faces Butler’s Caroline Hedrick at 2:30 p.m.
The Main Draw features three ranked players, in addition to Schmidt: No. 26 Nadia Ravita and No. 55 Kelsey Dieters of Kentucky and No. 71 Georgina Sellyn of Vanderbilt.
