Pair of Freshmen Pick Up Wins at Michigan Fall Invite

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The Purdue women’s tennis team had a tough start to the Michigan Fall Invite on Friday. The Boilermakers were able to pick up a pair of victories from freshmen, though, against Notre Dame.

In the morning singles match, Notre Dame had the upper hand as it took singles matches at Nos. 1 through 5 and No. 8. Andjela Djokovic opener her career with a win at No. 6. The Australian knocked off Julie Vrabel 6-2, 5-7, 6-4 to earn three points for the Boilermakers. Natalia Davila also began her collegiate career with a victory. She defeated Jane Fennelly at No. 7 4-6, 7-5, 6-3. Lynda Xepoleas and Claudia Escribens were both won the first set, at No. 1 and No. 8, respectively, but neither could close out the match.

In the afternoon, the Boilermakers took on the Michigan Wolverines. The host school was perfect as it did not drop a set in any of the eight matches.

Purdue will be back in action on Saturday with three matches, two doubles and one singles. The Boilermakers open up with doubles play against Arizona State before playing Notre Dame, also in doubles. In the afternoon, Purdue faces DePaul in singles.
