WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue women's tennis team kicks off the 2012-13 season this weekend as four ladies travel to Durham, N.C., to take part in the Duke Fab Four Invitational.

"I'm very eager to start the season," head coach Laura Glitz said. "Coming off a great season last year and adding some talented freshmen is exciting for our program."

The Duke Fab Four Invitational is one of the most prestigious fall tournaments in the country. Several of the top 125 singles players in the country will participate include Purdue's own Lynda Xepoleas who is ranked 121st. The tournament has three singles divisions, the blue, black, and white, and three doubles brackets.

Krisztina Kapitany makes her Purdue debut on Friday at 2:30 p.m. The freshman is scheduled to play in the Blue division against Zoe DeBruycker of North Carolina. Mara Schmidt is also in the Blue division, but on the opposite side of the bracket. The Purdue junior will play Kelsey Laurente of the University of Miami, also at 2:30 p.m. Texas A&m's Cristina Sanchez-Quintanar is the top seed in the Blue division and she is ranked No. 4 in the country in the 2012-13 preseason ITA rankings.

Xepoleas is in the Black division for this weekend's tournament. The sophomore is scheduled to play at 2:30 p.m. against Tessa Lyons of North Carolina. If Xepoleas wins, she will play against the winner of Texas A&M's Cristina Stancu and Ole Miss' Marija Milutinovic. Stancu is ranked No. 17 in the country.

Daniela Vidal is the fourth Boilermaker in the tournament. The sophomore is in the White division and has the toughest opening round match of any Purdue entrant. Vidal is scheduled to face Hanna Mar of Duke at 2:30 p.m. Mar is ranked No. 35 in the nation. Mary Anne Macfarlane of Alabama is the top seed in the White division and is ranked No. 10 in the nation.

In doubles play, Xepoleas and Vidal are in the `B' division and will play Slater and Suarez-Malaguti of North Carolina at 10 a.m. on Friday. Texas A&M has the top pair in the bracket. Kapitany and Schmidt make up the other Boilermaker doubles pair. The freshman/junior pair is in the `C' division and will play Mulholland and Goldfeld of Duke at 10 a.m. on Friday.

"It will be interesting for me to see how we do in this tournament because this is a tough tournament and there are no easy matches," said Glitz. "It's going to challenge us and I get to see right away what we need to improve upon."

Results and a full recap will be posted at following each day of the tournament.
