WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue women's tennis will open its dual-meet calendar at No. 8 Ole Miss in the first round of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend on Saturday, Jan. 26.
The 56th-ranked Boilermakers were selected to the Oxford, Mississippi, site in last week's ITA Kick-Off Weekend draft. No. 21 Michigan will face No. 31 Syracuse in the opposite first-round match with winners facing each other in the second round on Sunday, Jan. 27.
Led by nationally-ranked and All-Big Ten first team member Silvia Ambrosio, Purdue returns its entire roster from a season ago when it finished 14-10 overall and fourth in the Big Ten standings.
Ole Miss returns to the court following its best season this century, but without NCAA Champion Arianne Haranto, who graduated following the 2017-18 campaign.
ITA Kick-Off Weekend is comprised of 15 "regionals" with four teams competing in each regional. The winners of the single-elimination event advance to February 2019's ITA Division I National Team Indoor Championships. Washington (women's) and Illinois (men's) will serve as hosts for the National Team Indoors and received automatic invitations to the event and are exempt from competing in the 2019 Kick-Off Weekend.
Host sites for the ITA Kick-Off Weekend were determined using the final 2017-18 Oracle ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings. The draft filled the Nos. 2-4 seeds at all locations, again using the final national team rankings as a guide to determine draft order.
Opening round contests at each location pits the No. 1 (host) seed versus the No. 4 seed, and the No. 2 seed against the No. 3 seed. The two winners advance to the following day's championship match, while the two losing teams will square off in a consolation match.
