BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Big Ten hosted its annual Women’s Tennis Awards Banquet on Thursday night at the conference tournament. Purdue picked up one second-team honor as well as a sportsmanship award.

Mara Schmidt was among six individuals to be named Second Team All-Big Ten Thursday night. The junior played most of the season at the top two singles spots and No. 1 doubles. She was 11-9 in dual match singles play including 4-7 in Big Ten play. She also went 13-6 in doubles on the season all at No. 1 including 6-4 in conference play. She was part of a doubles team that has been ranked in the top 25 nationally this season.

Krisztina Kapitany was named the team’s Sportsmanship Honoree. This award is given to one player on each team who exemplifies sportsmanship and ethical behavior throughout the season as well as maintains good academic standing.
