CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - The Purdue women's tennis team swept Wake Forest in doubles action and won four singles matches against Missouri Friday at the Midwest Blast. The 12th-ranked duo of Krisztina Kapitany and Mara Schmidt led the way by winning both of their doubles matches. The Boilermakers return to the court Saturday at 9 a.m. CT to face off against Missouri in doubles, followed by singles against the Demon Deacons at 10 a.m.

The tournament features a hidden dual-match format, meaning each team will play each other once in singles and doubles, though a particular team will not play singles and doubles against the same team on the same day.

Kapitany and Schmidt cruised past the Wake Forest team of Kasey Gardiner and Zue Zhang in the No. 1 spot, 8-2, to open competition. Tiebreakers were needed for the teams of Daniela Vidal and Lynda Xepoleas and Claudia Escribens and Nicole Robinson. Playing in the No. 2 slot, Vidal and Zepoleas won in five, while Escribens and Robinson won in three at No. 3.

While the Boilermakers battled with the Demon Deacons, Natalia Davila and Andjela Djokovic got a head start on Missouri. The freshmen tandem downed Alex Clark and Tracy Dong, 8-6.

In its singles matchup against the Tigers, Purdue was victorious in the Nos. 3-6 spots. Vidal and Robinson each won in straight sets, defeating Madison Rhyner (7-5, 6-0) and Kelli Hine (6-4, 7-6 (3)), respectively. At No. 5, Kapitany rallied past Rachel Stuhlmann in three sets, 6-1, 2-6, 6-1. Escribens picked up a 2-6, 6-3, 6-1 win over Cassidy Spearman in the No. 6 spot.

Kapitany and Schmidt were the lone victors as the Boilermakers took on Illinois in doubles. They disposed of Allison Falkin and Jerricka Boone with an 8-5 decision.

A singles battle with Illinois at 11 a.m. on Sunday will conclude the tournament.
