Two Hoosier teams hit the courts today and the 49th-ranked team in the nation picked up the win. The Purdue women's tennis team defeated Indiana, the first ever win over the Hoosiers, in Bloomington 5-2 and entered the record books. The Boilers, now 12-7 overall and 7-1 in the Big Ten, have the most-ever conference wins in a season in the 22-year history of the program.
Mary Beth Maggart, a senior, topped Correne Stout 7-6, 6-0 at the No. 1 singles position and Jennifer Embry stepped in line. The sophomore beat Hoosier Kelly Blanch 7-6, 3-6, 6-3 in the No. 2 singles spot. Erika Quebe, a freshman, picked up her second win of the weekend by beating Zahra Ahamed 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3. While Lisa Walgenbach and Hally Cohen also won for the Boilers. With the victory, Walgenbach remains undefeated in league play and stands at 8-0 in her debut season.
The only Boiler win in doubles action came from the duo of Maggart and Embry. The No. 1 singles pair beat Blanch and Stout of I.U. 8-2. Purdue will close the Big Ten regular season April 25 and 26 when Iowa and Minnesota come to West Lafayette.
