EAST LANSING, Mich. - The No. 17 Purdue women's tennis team bounced back on Sunday with a conference road win. The Boilermakers knocked off Michigan State, 5-2.
Purdue (12-2, 4-1 Big Ten) started the afternoon by taking the doubles point. Lynda Xepoleas and Daniela Vidal picked up a win at No. 2 by knocking off Nicole Herzog and Michaela Silesova, 8-6. The point was clinched at No. 3. Gisella Pere and Tess Bernard-Feigenbaum held on to defeat Emily Meyers and Julianne Gruber, 9-7.
The Boilermakers added four wins in singles play. Mara Schmidt returned to her No. 2 spot where she dominated Catherine Parenteau. Schmidt won, 6-0, 6-1. Vidal picked up a strong win at No. 3. She dominated Meyers, 6-1, 6-2.
Claudia Escribens was in the lineup for the first time in her career. The freshman won in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 6 over Gruber. Pere closed out the wins for Purdue with a win at No. 5. She knocked off Silesova, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 5.
Michigan State (10-10) got on the board with wins at No. 1 and No. 4.
The Boilermakers return to action on Friday as the team hits the road for another pair of Big Ten matches. Purdue will face Nebraska on Friday and Iowa on Sunday.
