MALIBU, Calif. - The Purdue women's tennis team did not have enough firepower to overcome 14th-ranked Pepperdine and fell 8-1 in a match played in Malibu, Calif., today. The loss drops Purdue to 3-5 (1-1 Big Ten).

Jennifer Embry was Purdue's lone winner on the day. The sophomore moved up to the No. 1 position where she defeated Zsofia Csapo 6-2, 6-4. Csapo is the 33rd-ranked player in the nation.

Freshman Lisa Walgenbach took her match against Nadine Rastetter to three sets before falling 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 at the No. 4 slot. Classmate Erika Quebe had the challenge of facing the 45th-ranked player in the nation, Angela Lawrence, at the No. 2 spot. Lawrence came out ahead with a 6-3, 6-2 win. Karoline borgerson, the 31st-ranked player in the country, proved too much for Shannon Taheny at the No. 3 spot, as she downed the Boilermaker sophomore 7-5, 6-2.
