Final Stats

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue women's tennis team defeated Miami (Ohio) 7-0 this evening at the Lafayette Sports Center.

The Boilermakers took the doubles point 8-6, 6-8, 8-0 and won all six singles matches in straight sets.

The evening win followed a 7-0 afternoon victory over DePaul.

"This was a good way to start out the new year," said coach Mat Iandolo. "We learned a lot about our team that should help us as we prepare to go on the road."

The Boilermakers travel to Knoxville, Tenn., and Baton Rouge, La., to face Tennessee and LSU next weekend.

In singles play, Lara Burgarello defeated Maura Trauernicht 6-1, 6-2 at No. 6, and Melissa Woods overcame Remy Swain 6-4, 6-0 at No. 5. At No. 4, Alyssa Rodriguez beat Nancy Wiegand 6-3, 6-1. Hala Sufi defeated Megan Zimpfer 6-0, 6-3 at the No. 3 spot, and at No. 2 Gretchen Haynor beat Katrina Lomidze 6-2, 6-4. At No. 1, Amy Walgenbach defeated Linda Jirouskova 6-2, 6-3.

The loss drops Miami to 1-2 on the season and sends the Boilermakers south with a 2-0 record.
