Iandolo Inks Class of 2002
The Purdue women's tennis team has announced the signing of two recruits
for the 1998-99 season. Lynsey Fick of Davenport, Iowa, and Missy Wright of
Ontario, Canada, will be heading for West Lafayette to add to an already
talented team.
Fick, who also plays volleyball and basketball, was recruited by Big Ten
schools Iowa and Wisconsin in addition to Purdue. By concentrating just on
tennis while at Purdue, Iandolo feels that Fick's game can reach a new
level.
"Lynsey is a tremendous three-sport athlete who has never played
tennis any more than seasonally up to this point," Iandolo said. "But we
are very anxious to see how far she can get by concentrating all her
efforts on tennis on an intense basis."
Wright, who was recruited by
Indiana and Nebraska, will be Iandolo's first international recruit and
should work into the scheme of things early in her career.
"Missy is a
tremendous singles and doubles player who is going to help us right away,"
said Iandolo, "She has the potential to come in and play high in doubles,
and she will help us a great deal in singles, as well."
The two recruits
agree that the personality of the team and coaches, along with the
university itself, made signing with Purdue an easy decision.
"I absolutely
love the girls on the team and the coaches are great," said Fick. "I love
the campus, as well, and what the university offers its athletes."
Wright
echoes Fick's sentiments and is excited about her freshman campaign. "I'm
excited because the coaches are great and people there are so nice," said
Wright. "I feel the team is loaded with potential and am excited about
next year."
Purdue begins its spring season with matches at South
Carolina and Tennessee on Jan. 24 and 25, respectively. The Boilers' first
home match is Feb. 15 vs. Auburn.
