May 4, 1998
Jennifer Embry (Houston, Texas, Memorial H.S.), a sophomore on Purdue's women's tennis team was named Female Athlete-of-the-Month for her outstanding performances throughout April. The award is sponsored by WLFI-TV and Twin City Dodge-Chrysler-Plymouth.
During the month of April, Embry compiled a 7-1 record at the No. 2 singles position. Her most significant win, a 5-2 decision over Indiana's Kelly Blanch, was the turning point for the Boilermakers as they defeated their state rival for the first time in school history. She also had a victory against 24th-ranked Kentucky.
Embry also plays on the No. 1 doubles team with senior Mary Beth Maggart. The pair is ranked 24th in the nation and has the second best record in the Big Ten. Her success gave the Boilermakers a No. 2 seed heading into the Big Ten tournament, May 1-3 at Wisconsin.
