Meet Scoring/Dive Numbers Meet Scoring/Dive Numbers At the NCAA Division I Swimming and Diving Championships, each event scores through 16 places. The top eight competitors from the preliminaries compete in the evening finals of an event, and the next eight compete in consolation finals. The scoring is as follows, with relays counting double points:
1st - 20 pts. 2nd - 17 pts. 3rd - 16 pts. 4th - 15 pts. Student-athletes who finish among the top eight are named All-America. Those who place anywhere from ninth to 16th place are designated All-America Honorable Mention. Each dive is marked by a series of numbers and letters which can tell you the type of dive being executed. The number underneath the series of numbers and letters is the dive's degree of difficulty. Here is a key:
5233D (Back 1½ somersault, 1½ twists, Free)
107B (Forward 3½ somersault, Pike)
____^ Position: A = Straight, B = Pike, C = Tuck, D = Free
___^_ Number of head to toe rotations or ½ twists....
7 = 3½ rotations
__^__ 0 = No designation, 1 = Flying,
[head to toe on twisting dives; 3 = 1½ somersault]
_^___ 1 = Forward, 2 = Back, 3 = Reverse, 4 = Inward, 6 = Armstand
^____ 5 = Twisting dive or 6 = Armstand Twisting Dive.
So, McCambridge's dive list would be:Forward 2 somersault, tuck - degree of difficulty 2.2; Back 1½ somersault, pike - dod 2.3 Reverse 1½ somersault, tuck - dod 2.1; Forward somersault, 1½ twists, free - dod 2.2 Inward 1½ somersault, tuck - dod 2.2; Forward 1½ somersault, tuck - dod 1.6 Back ½ somersault, pike - dod 1.6; Reverse ½ somersault, pike - dod 1.7 Inward ½ somersault, pike - dod 1.5; Back ½ somersault, 1½ twists, free - dod 2.1
