Mele Kalikimaka! (that's Merry Christmas in Hawaiian)...
We hope you all had an enjoyable day with your families.
Many Purdue families have joined us here on the island and we all had a delicious dinner together beachside at sunset on Christmas Day. There were so many yummy things to eat at the buffet.
Many of the athletes tried things they have never tasted before. Shannon Grace and Rachel Murphy tried some oysters, but they were not too fond of them, and did not go back for more.
With the day off from practice, many of the athletes went to Kailua Beach. It was a beautifully sunny day, and many swam alongside a sea turtle or two. It has been a mecca of sealife between the excusion to that beach coupled with a visit to Hanauma Bay the day before.
Christine Inman spotted the state fish, the Humuhumunukunuku Apua'a, and Jennifer Lavers really loved all of the "Nemo" fish in the bay. Floating through the bay felt just like swimming in an aquarium. All in all, it was a very enjoyable time for everyone.
Now it's back to work.
We ended our last practice before Christmas with some very fast swims: a 100 and a 50 fast off the blocks and a 500 from the distance women reaffirmed the fact that you do not have to feel good to swim fast. We will be getting ready to swim fast again on Thursday as we compete against Luther College. Until then, we will practice, surf in the sun, and send you another update soon.
