COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Carly Mercer's new school record in the 100 freestyle as well as Casey Matthews' sweep of the springboard diving events highlighted the three-day 2013 Ohio State Invitational for No. 16 Purdue women's swimming and diving.

Mercer qualified for the A final in four different individual events en route to finishing the weekend as the Boilers' top individual scorer with 56 points. She was the runner-up in the A final of the 100 free while posting her new program-record time of 48.43. The senior eclipsed Ariel Martin's record (48.43) from the 2011 Big Ten Championships.

Matthews won three of the four diving rounds in which she competed, cruising to an opening-night victory from the 3-meter board with a meet-record score of 371.60. After placing seventh among the eight qualifiers in the prelims of 1-meter diving Saturday, she improved her score by 48 points to win the event final. Matthews racked up 40 team points with her two victories and has now posted five event wins over the last three meets.

Nate Cox won from the platforms Sunday for the Purdue men, giving the Boilers a diving winner in each of the three events in Columbus.

Rhiannon Sheets and Francesca Marr joined Mercer as Purdue swimmers to score in four individual events. Sheets' 43 individual points ranked second on the team. She was the runner-up in the A final of the 200 free, took third in the A final of the 200 butterfly and won the B final of the 100 fly.

Marr qualified for the A final of both breaststroke events and took fifth in the B final of both IM races. She and MacKenzie Tweardy both accounted for 33 points. Tweardy took second in platform diving and was third from the 1-meter springboard.

Nika Karlina Petric and Marr joined Mercer as Boilers to move up on the program's all-time Top 10 lists. Meanwhile, freshmen Meagan Lim and Hannah Manger added their names to the record book for the first time.

In program history, Petric moved up to second place in the 400 IM (4:16.62), third place in the mile (16:23.49) and fourth place in the 500 free (4:45.91) with her career-best times. She scored in all three events en route to accounting for 18 points at the three-day meet.

Marr moved up to second place in the 200 breast (2:12.97) and joined the 100 breast (1:02.99) Top 10 list at seventh. She continues to hold the 400 IM record from the 2012 Big Ten Championships.

Along with her new 100 free record, Mercer also posted career-best times in the 200 free (1:46.90) and 200 IM (2:00.24). The senior now ranks third in the 200 IM and fourth in the 200 free in program history.

Lim joined the Purdue all-time Top 10 lists in the 100 and 200 fly and Manger did likewise in the 100 and 200 back.

The Boilermakers' top foursomes in all five relay events each posted Top 10 all-time showings. Mercer contributed to all five top relays. Grace Hernandez and Sheets were also part of all three top freestyle relays.

Purdue dominated the 1-meter diving finals as Matthews, Tweardy and Mary Beth Dunnichay teamed up to account for three of the top four finishers.

A trio of Boilers also teamed up for a thrilling finish in the C final of the 400 IM, one of the most physically demanding events in a meet. Lizzy Lyon, Stephanie Schlobohm and Madison Monteiro finished one-two-three in the C final, with Lyon out touching Schlobohm by one hundredth of a second. Monteiro was only a second behind her teammates. Schlobohm did go on to win the C finals of 100 back and 200 fly.

Purdue finished in fourth place with 571.5 points. The three-day Ohio State Invitational featured four Top 20 teams competing in a 10-lane pool. No. 5 Florida rallied Sunday to win the women's scoring by four points over No. 12 Virginia. The Gators overcame a 49-point deficit on the final day of the meet.

Selected members of the Purdue women's team will be in action the weekend of Dec. 6-8 at the Hoosierland Winter Invite in Bloomington, Ind. The Purdue divers will compete at the USA Diving Winter Nationals in Austin, Texas, from Dec. 17-22. The next meet for the full team is tentatively set for Jan. 4 at Hawaii.
