WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Big Ten Conference announced Monday that Carrie McCambridge was selected as its Diver of the Week. The junior won three of four competitions last weekend against Notre Dame, Arizona State and the seven-team Indiana Intercollegiates' field.
The 2003-04 Big Ten Diver of the Year held her own against 2004 All-Americans Meghan Perry-Eaton and Trisha Tumlinson during Friday's triangular with the 23rd-ranked Fighting Irish and 21st-ranked Sun Devils. McCambridge won the 1-meter title with a score of 308.20, and was the runner-up behind Perry-Eaton in 3-meter competition (295.40).
Perry-Eaton's 3-meter score of 327.40 set a new Boilermaker Aquatic Center record, breaking Kara Hajek-Gustafson's 2002 mark of 323.75.
McCambridge had no problem sweeping the competition off both springboards at Saturday's Indiana Intercollegiates. McCambridge's 1-meter score came in at 295.00 and her 3-meter score of 312.10 was a personal best. All four of McCambridge's scores qualified her for NCAA Central Regional Diving Zones.
McCambridge and her teammates face a daunting task this weekend, playing host to the Boilermaker Challenge. Divers from Auburn, Florida, Michigan, Texas, Texas A&M, UCLA and Virginia are among the participants entering this two-day competition.
The Boilermaker Challenge will be broken into three sessions: Friday at 6 p.m., Saturday at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. Divers will compete off both springboards, as well as the platform tower.
