WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue men's and women's swimming and diving teams have been honored by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America for excellence in the classroom.
The women's team compiled a 3.49 grade-point average, good for 14th-best in Division I, to garner All-Academic Team honors. The Boilermakers tied Penn State in that spot nationally and for second in the Big Ten. Eight individuals also were recognized, as Ariel Martin, Lauren Roth and Allie Smith were named to the All-Academic Individual Team and Katie Beck, Kristen Gilson, Amy Gutwein, Christine Inman and Seraphina Van captured spots on the honorable-mention team.
On the men's side, former diver David Colturi was named to the All-Academic Individual Team, while swimmers Wyatt Hodges, Andre Koop, Alec LaMothe, Matt Stewart and Ben Wachtel earned individual honorable-mention nods. The men's team also was an All-Academic Team after posting a 3.05 GPA.
The CSCAA All-Academic Team featured all teams with cumulative GPAs of 3.0 or higher. In order to be eligible for individual honors, student-athletes had to have a cumulative or semester GPA of at least 3.5. The All-Academic Individual Team was made up of those who qualified for the NCAA Championships, and the honorable-mention team featured those who earned NCAA `B' cuts.
