CSCAA Scholar All-America Teams: Men | Women
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- The Purdue swimming and diving teams, as well as 10 Boilers individually, have been recognized for their academic excellence during the 2011-12 school year by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America.
The Purdue men and women were honored as Scholar All-America Teams for compiling team grade point averages of 3.0 and better during the 2012 spring semester. The women posted a 3.4 team GPA while the men checked in at 3.0. Both programs have been recognized biannually regularly. The CSCAA released its fall semester Scholar All-America Teams in February.
Individually, swimmers were recognized for having GPAs of 3.5 and better coupled with their accomplishments in the pool during the 2011-12 season. Matt Friede, Lauren Roth and Ben Wachtel garnered Scholar All-America honors for qualifying for the NCAA Championships.
Seven other swimmers were selected as Honorable Mention Scholar All-America performers. Those honorees earned GPAs of 3.5 and better while registering at least one NCAA provisional-qualifying B cut time during the season.
Six of the 10 Boilers recognized by the CSCAA were also Academic All-Big Ten honorees. Additionally, Lauren Gustafson, Courtney Tumbush and Roth were Distinguished Big Ten Scholars as well. Freshmen are not eligible for the Academic All-Big Ten and Distinguished Big Ten Scholar lists but are eligible for the CSCAA Scholar All-America program.
