2012-13 Purdue Recruiting Class | 2011-12 Purdue Season Recap

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Purdue women's swimming and diving's incoming 2012-13 recruiting class has been rated the 11th-best group nationally by CollegeSwimming.com.

In December, John Klinge and Erica Janssen announced the signing of six standouts set to join the program in the fall of 2012. Since then, Nika Petric (a native of Slovakia) and Madison Monteiro (Hurst, Texas) have also been accepted and are set to enroll in the university. Petric is the sister of Jan Petric of the Purdue men's team. Nika specializes in the middle distance freestyle events, specifically the 200 and 500 free.

CollegeSwimming.com highlighted Lysi Halkides (No. 13), Petric (No. 54) and Jacie Beagle (No. 79) among its Top 100 recruits. All seven incoming swimmers were among the top 175.

"We are very excited about this year's freshman class," Klinge said. "These incoming student-athletes are a very talented group but more importantly they are quality individuals who will add to the culture and attitude of our program."

Among the Big Ten Conference, only Michigan (No. 9) had an incoming recruiting class rated higher than the Boilermakers.

Purdue lost only two swimmers to graduation that scored points at the 2012 Big Ten Championships. Upperclassmen Emily Fogle and Lauren Gustafson, who have each qualified for the NCAA Championships during their Purdue careers, will highlight the returning swimmers for the 2012-13 season. The Boilermakers will also welcome back Caitlin Hamilton after the two-time NCAA qualifier redshirted this past year. Fogle, Gustafson and Hamilton were three of the Boilers' nine qualifiers for the U.S. Olympic Team Trials.

Purdue is also expected to have its full complement of divers competing in 2012-13 after three exercised Olympic redshirt waivers this past year.

The Boilermakers' 16 new records established in 2011-12 featured seven individual team benchmarks, seven individual freshman bests and two relay records. Purdue has now set new school records in every swimming and diving event during the tenures of Klinge and head diving coach Adam Soldati.
