Dive-by-Dive Scoring & Live Results | Swimming World Zones Roundup
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Jamie Bissett and Layne Rogers became the third and fourth Purdue divers to punch their tickets to the NCAA Championships, finishing among the top five in the finals of the men's 3-meter competition on day of the Zone C Championships at the Boilermaker Aquatic Center Friday afternoon.
Bissett took third in the 3-meter competition with a combined score of 769.75 in the two rounds of action. The top four finishers in the men's 3-meter event earned automatic bids to NCAAs. But with Kentucky's Greg Ferrucci and Indiana's Darian Schmidt finishing one-two for the second day in a row and having already qualified, Rogers' fifth-place showing with a score of 755.85 was good enough for a berth to the national championship meet as well.
Bissett and Rogers join Michelle Cabassol and Casey Matthews from the women's team as Purdue divers to punch their tickets to the NCAA Championships. Bissett and Rogers will be representing the Boilers at the national meet for the first time. Both of Purdue swim-dive programs now have eight competitors in the field for NCAAs later this month in Indianapolis.
Kentucky's John Fox and Indiana's Emad Abdelatif also earned berths among the men's competitors Friday. Fox was fourth in the 3-meter and Abdelatif's fourth-place finish from the 1-meter board Thursday was first in line for a bid after Ferrucci and Schmidt repeated.
Eastern Michigan's Kelly Hendricks and Danielle Hulvey along with Notre Dame's Jennifer Chiang earned spots in the NCAA Championships by finishing one-two-three in the women's 1-meter competition.
Purdue's MacKenzie Tweardy placed seventh in the finals of the women's 1-meter event Friday. She will be among the five Boilers looking to clinch their spot at NCAAs Saturday.
The Zone C Diving Championships conclude Saturday with the platform events. Women's action begins at 11 a.m. and the men will start 30 minutes after the women's finals round is complete. Only the top 12 in the prelims advance to the finals of the platform competitions.
