Complete Two-Day Meet Results

MADISON, Wis. -- Jamie Bissett and Danny Tucker recorded individual victories and Purdue men's swimming and diving won both freestyle relays as the two-day Big Ten Quad and Triple Duals wrapped up Saturday afternoon.

The Boilermakers came away with only one team victory on the weekend at the seven-team meet. The Purdue women topped Illinois in the head-to-head scoring. The women are now 6-3 in dual meet action this season while the men slipped to 4-4. The men close out their dual meet schedule next Saturday (Feb. 9) against rival Indiana at the Boilermaker Aquatic Center.

Bissett posted another personal season-best score to complete a sweep of the diving events this weekend. He won the 1-meter competition Saturday with a score of 360.05. His six-dive list award Friday in his 3-meter victory was a Purdue season best. The sophomore has five individual event victories this year.

Chuck Destro, Matt Friede, Benjamin Ziolkowski and Tucker teamed up to give the Purdue men victories in both the 200 and 400 freestyle relays. Destro and Tucker both posted sub 20-second splits in the 200 free relay win and the foursome's time of 1:20.36 was its best of the season. In the 400 free relay, the Boilers' victorious time of 2:59.72 was only one one-hundredth of a second shy of the team's season best, established three weeks ago while setting a new pool record at Michigan State.

"I'm really proud of all our relays this weekend and attitude of our guys in the face of a couple of tough losses," Purdue men's head coach Dan Ross said. "Wisconsin and Minnesota deserved the wins, but i feel really good about our training and positioning going into IU week and beyond to conference. Kudos to Danny Tucker for his relay swims and 100 free win. It feels good to be coming home after a prolonged road trip."

A runner-up finish for Allie Davis in the 500 freestyle highlighted the day for the Purdue women. The freshman out touched a pair of Minnesota swimmers in a very tight two-three-four finish for second place in which the three competitors all finished within sixth tenths of a second within each other.

Casey Matthews placed third in the 1-meter diving to finish the weekend with a pair of third-place showings as Purdue's top performer in both diving events. Francesca Marr was the Boilers' top finisher in two more events Saturday (200 breast, 400 IM) to cap a weekend in which she had the team's best times in four individual events. Lauren Gustafson had a strong showing among a fast field in the 100 freestyle (50.73), placing fifth.

Tucker's 100 freestyle win (44.62) was his team-leading 13th individual victory of the season. Destro posted a new Purdue season-best time of 48.82 while finishing as the runner up in the 100 butterfly. In the relay events, Tucker has now contributed to 12 winners and Destro 10 this year.

Danny Conway was Purdue's top finisher in a pair of events (500 free and 400 IM) and Brian Kiel took fourth in the 200 backstroke. Both swimmers had the top showings for the Boilers in three events this weekend.

The men's dual versus Indiana Saturday is set for a noon start at the Boilermaker Aquatic Center. The annual senior salute ceremony will be held beforehand. Selected members of the women's program will travel to Columbus next weekend for the two-day Ohio State Winter Invite. The rest of the women's roster will continue training for the Big Ten Championships, set for Feb. 20-23 in Minneapolis. The men's conference championship meet is the following week in Bloomington, Ind.
