Day One Results

MADISON, Wis. -- Event victories for Jamie Bissett in the men's 3-meter diving and Rhiannon Sheets in the women's 200 butterfly highlighted the opening day of action for the Purdue swimming and diving teams at the Big Ten Quad and Triple Duals Friday evening.

The two-day meet concludes Saturday with another full day of action. The head-to-head team results between the four Big Ten teams in attendance will be finalized Saturday. Most notably, the Purdue women hold a sizeable lead on Illinois and the Purdue men will enter Saturday trailing host Wisconsin by 18 points.

Lew Gerbrandt (200 fly), Luke Trimmer (1,000 free), Ben Ziolkowski (50 free) and Bissett (3-meter diving) were among the Boilers that recorded new personal season-best times or scores Friday.

Bissett and Layne Rogers teamed up for a one-two finish for Purdue in the 3-meter diving competition. Bissett (379.15) won a springboard diving event at the Big Ten Quad for the second year in a row, topping the event leaderboard by 22 points. It was his fourth individual victory of the season.

Sheets touched first in the 200 fly (2:00.76) for her sixth individual victory of her sophomore campaign. She was also the Boilers' top finisher in the 200 free. Francesca Marr (100 breast, 200 IM) was Purdue's top performer in a pair of events as well.

The Purdue men enjoyed a strong showing in the 50 free, an event that featured Boilers as four of the top six finishers. Danny Tucker, Chuck Destro and Ziolkowski placed two-three-four. Wisconsin native Matt Friede was sixth to go along with being Purdue's top performer in the 200 free, an event in which he placed fourth. Tucker and Destro also helped the 200 medley relay team take second.

Highlighted by his runner-up showing in the 100 backstroke, Brian Kiel was the Boilers' top finisher in a pair of events as well.

Additional individual third-place finishes came from Danny Conway in the 200 fly and Casey Matthews in the 1-meter diving.
