Purdue Swimming & Diving Jumps In For Annual Old Gold vs. Black Meet

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue men's and women's swimming and diving teams kicked off their 2002-03 seasons on Friday at the Boilermaker Aquatic Center with the annual Old Gold vs. Black Intrasquad meet. On the women's side, the Old Gold team defeated the Black team, 121-106. On the men's side, the Old Gold team defeated the Black team, 115-109.

Winning individual events for the Old Gold women's team were freshman Erica Chandler in the 1,000 free, senior Kim Paradeise in the 50 and 500 free, junior Autumn Sample in the 200 fly, and senior Lisa Dolansky in the 200 back.

On the women's side for the Black team, sophomore Christine Leupold in the 200 free, junior Jenni Bean in the 200 IM and 100 free, freshman Carrie McCambridge on both the 1- and 3-meter boards, and freshman Yvonne Laaper in the 200 breaststroke.

The Old Gold men who won individual events were sophomore Rion Epping in the 500 and 1,000 free, sophomore Eric Prugh in the 200 free, sophomore Ignatius Goh in the 50 free, senior Tad Sayce in the 100 free, and junior Tamas Bessenyei in the 200 breaststroke.

The Black side of the men's squad saw sophomore Louis Paul win the 200 IM, junior David Hanisch on both the 1- and 3-meter boards, freshman Blake Scholz in the 200 fly and freshman Giordan Pogioli in the 200 backstroke.



In the relays, the women's Old Gold team of Dolansky, sophomore Lindsay Kirchoff, Sample and Paradeise won the 400 medley relay in 3:52.56, while the men's Old Gold team of sophomore David Hughes, Bessenyei, junior Nick Cenci and senior Will Seelbach finished first with a time of 3:33.44.

In the 400 freestyle relay, the Old Gold women took first again with the team of Dolansky, sophomore Katie Seleskie, senior Shannon Funk and Chandler in 3:33.14. The Black team's men's squad of senior Jeremy Wright, Dekter, Paul and sophomore John Arzner took first with a time of 3:06.74.

The Boilermakers will return to the pool for their first intercollegiate competition on Saturday when they host the Indiana Intercollegiates at the Boilermaker Aquatic Center at noon. Attending the meet will be both the men's and women's squads from Ball State, Butler, Indianapolis, IUPUI, Valparaiso and Vincennes.
