WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Emily Fogle, Carly Mercer and Rhiannon Sheets each posted a pair of individual victories and swam on a relay winner, leading the way as Purdue women's swimming and diving opened its new season with a 179-109 dual meet win against Miami (Ohio) Friday evening at the Boilermaker Aquatic Center.

Allie Davis (500 and 1000 freestyle) was also a two-time individual winner in her collegiate debut. Purdue won all 16 events of the dual.

Fogle swept the breaststroke events, winning the 100 breast (1:02.44) by more than two seconds while posting an NCAA provisional qualifying time in her first individual event of the season. Francesca Marr kept pace with Fogle in the 200 breast as the two Boilers finished less than a second apart. Marr also won the 200 IM.

Sheets and Mercer swam the final two legs for the victorious 400 freestyle relay team, teaming up with Lauren Gustafson and Lauren Nichols. Individually, Mercer swept the 100 and 200 free and Sheets did likewise in the butterfly events.

Amy Katz and Nichols had an individual victory and swam on a relay winner. Katz touched first in the 100 backstroke and swam the leadoff leg on the 200 medley relay. Nichols won the 50 free and finished second to Mercer in the 100.

Gustafson was part of both relay winners, anchoring the 200 medley foursome and leading off the 400 free grouping.

Like Davis, freshman Jacie Beagle also had a strong showing in her collegiate debut. She finished second to Katz in the 100 back and second to Colleen Drew in the 200 back.

MacKenzie Tweardy and Maddie Miskulin were winners on the springboards for the Boilers. The men's divers also competed Friday and freshman Layne Rogers swept the events. Those scores will carry over to the men's dual with Miami Oct. 27 in Oxford.

Purdue continues its season-opening weekend Saturday when it competes in the annual Indiana Intercollegiates co-ed meet at the Boilermaker Aquatic Center. The six-school, 11-team meet begins at noon.
