Women's Swimming Produces Excellent Morning Session At Big Ten's

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Purdue women's swim team had an excellent preliminary session this morning for day two of the 2001 Big Ten's Women's Swimming Championships. The Boilermakers qualified six different individuals and two individual alternates for the finals, along with the automatic team bids for the two relays.

Qualifying for this evening's events are Patricia Finnerty in the 100 butterfly, Kim Paradeise and Gyongyver Lakos in the 200 freestyle, Brianna Reina and Lindsay Lange in the 100 breaststroke and Lisa Dolansky in the 100 backstroke. Autumn Sample qualified as the first alternate for the 400 individual medley and Kara Hajek finished as the second alternate for the 3-meter board.

Finnerty, Lakos, Lange and Dolansky all finished with times good enough to qualify for the NCAA's `B cut' at this morning's session, as well.

In the 200 medley relay, Purdue's qualifying time of 1:43.04 is the second-fastest, behind Penn State. It also is good enough for the NCAA's `B cut.' In the 800 free relay, the Boilermakers' time of 7:31. 90 is the sixth-fastest.

The Old Gold and Black will return to the pool this evening for the finals at 7 p.m. Purdue is currently in seventh place with 70 points entering the finals.
