Before Purdue: Monteiro was a four-year letter-winner for coach Daniel Jew at Grapevine High School in Grapevine, Texas... established new school records in the 100 breast, 200 IM and 200 medley relay... two-time team captain and MVP as an upperclassman... NISCA Academic All-American and TISCA Academic All-State as a senior... TSISCA All-State in the 100 breast and 200 IM... helped her team win a Texas University Interscholastic League title as well as a Region 5-5A championship... most inspirational and G award winner as a junior... district champion in the 100 breast as a sophomore... won district championships as a freshman in the 200 IM and 200 medley relay... two-time team hardest work award winner and rookie of the year as a freshman... southern zone sectional finalist in the 100 and 200 breast at the club level...
