Jim Mountjoy Named Men's and Women's Diving Coach
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue athletic director Morgan Burke has announced the rehiring of Jim Mountjoy as the men's and women's diving coach. Mountjoy served as Purdue's diving coach each of the past three seasons but left for a brief period this summer to focus on academic pursuits. Mountjoy is in the final stages of finishing his bachelor's degree in technical graphics at Purdue and will be able to return to coaching in 1997-98.
"We are extremely pleased to have Jim back," head women's swimming coach Cathy Wright-Eger said. "We know what type of a job he can do and what type of coach he is. He is young, enthusiastic, energetic and very knowledgeable. All the returning divers are just as excited as we are to have him back.."
In 1997, Mountjoy coached sophomore Brandon Gustafson to a sixth place finish in platform at the Big Ten Championships. He also helped then senior Stacy Wallace reach the 3-meter finals. In 1996, Wallace scored off both the 1- and 3- meter boards at the Big Ten's and was third at the Minnesota Invitational.
"I think this is wondeful," Mountjoy said. "I'm very excited and glad that everything worked out for the best. I expect big things this year. We have some great athletes returning and some great recruits, as well."
Mountjoy and his wife, Kristina, reside in Indianapolis.
