Meet Women's Swim Coach Cathy Wright-Eger
Cathy Wright-Eger is in her 10th season as the women's swim coach. She was Big Ten Coach-of -the-Year in 1989-90 and has cited four Big Ten champions, 14 individual All-American Titles, 13 Academic All-Americans and 59 Academic All-Big Ten selections.
What is my philosophy of coaching?
To help people learn to be the BEST they can be in all aspects of their lives.
What areas of improvement did I see in my team this past year?
Saw more leadership, more positive attitudes and a willingness to work very hard every day.
What must our team do to improve in 1997-98?
More people score at Big Ten's-every class needs to score. Help the freshmen adjust better so that they can contribute points!
Who are some of our expected leaders and standouts for 1997-98 and why?
Marisa Watts-Returning All-American (honorable mention) Erika Whyte-scored at Big Ten's for two years and made NCAA's as a freshman, Tracy Storrier-fourth at Big Ten's as a sophomore.
Why should fans come to see my team play in 1997-98?
We are young, exciting to be around and have loads of potential.
What are Purdue's strenghts that we point out to recruits?
Academics are very strong and emphasized greatly and we have a family-like atmosphere on our TEAM.
What was my highlight of this past school year?
Marisa Watts scoring at NCAA's-getting two varsity records in one swim and making the National Distant Camp at Colorado Springs.
What was the highlight of my Purdue coaching career?
1992 22nd at NCAA's-Everyone scored at NCAA's.
What are my summer plans?
RECRUIT and hire two new coaches and spend time with my family.
