WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Boilermaker softball team spread Christmas cheer to the residents of University Place retirement home last week. For the second straight year, the Purdue squad went Christmas caroling, singing to the residents in the dining halls and throughout the hallways and even performed some in-room tunes for room-bound residents.
Sophomore Andie Varsho sang three different solos, while the team joined in on many other tunes.
"The residents really enjoyed the team coming in to sing," assistant coach Diane Stephenson said. "It brings so much to them at this time of year. It was a good experience to share some joy with the seniors at University Place and something wonderful the team really looked forward to do again this year."
The Boilermakers have an ongoing relationship with University Place. In addition to caroling, the team spends time with seniors throughout the year and even hosts a Way Back Wednesday game geared at bringing the residents out to see Purdue softball play in the spring.
