WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Over the weekend, the Boilermaker softball team celebrated the season of giving back, dancing for the children of Riley Hospital and serving Thanksgiving dinner to Tippecanoe county residents at the Hanna House.
On Saturday night, the team participated in the Purdue University Dance Marathon, which was established in 2005 and has raised almost $1,000,000 for the kids and families at Riley Hospital for Children over the years, specifically for the Cancer Center and Camp Riley. PUDM has grown from having only 100 dancers in its first year, to over 1100 in the November 2011 marathon. Local businesses, restaurants, prominent community figures, athletic teams, and a variety of bands aid with the marketing, fundraising, and entertainment during the marathon. PUDM tries to give more than just money to the hospital; we try to also provide a wonderful and special experience for our Riley kids. The marathon is a celebration of life, hope, love, and dreaming BIG!
On Sunday, the team helped greet guests, serve food, and provide assistance to patrons during the annual Hanna House Thanksgiving dinner. The dinner is a free, home-cooked meal offered to those in need in the Tippecanoe County area.
The Boilermaker softball team kicks off its 2013 season on Feb. 8 at the LSU Tiger Classic in Baton Rouge, La.
