WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue Softball team spent Friday night, Nov. 9, volunteering at the Lafayette YMCA working the American Heart Association "Red Out" event.

Families from the Tippecanoe County area gathered at the YMCA to participate in obstacle courses, basketball, jump roping, hurdle races and hula hooping. The Boilermakers were active throughout the event by helping children and their families have a memorable time.

The Boilermakers even showed off some of their skills at the event. Check out MaryBeth Pavlick and Paris Andrew adding a little something extra to the jump rope segment.

This is an annual event that promotes a healthy lifestyle and practicing safety procedures. Blood pressure and cholesterol screen as well as a fire safety demonstration were offered as part of the function.

The Boilermakers will remain in the giving mode, teaming up with Hanna House for Thanksgiving festivities on Nov. 18. The team will greet guests, serve food, and provide assistance to patrons during the annual Thanksgiving dinner.

The dinner is a free, home-cooked meal offered to those in need in the Tippecanoe County area.
