WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - More than two months removed from a nearly-tragic car accident, former Purdue shortstop Liane Horiuchi is back at home in Wahiawa, Hawai'i, continuing her rehabilitation and looking on to the next phase of her life.

Kanoa Leahey of KHON Channel 2 caught up with the Boilermakers' all-time stolen base leader shortly after her to return the islands to provide an update on her condition and an opportunity for Liane to thank all her well-wishers.

That video story from KHON can be found here.

Horiuchi, who received second team acclaim at third base in 2009, was named as a third team selection at shortstop this year. The Wahiawá, Hawaii, native ranked third nationally in stolen bases per game (0.83) and also ranked among the top 20 nationally in triples (7th with 6), triples per game (11th with 0.12) and sacrifice bunts per game (16th with 0.29). She posted a .264 average with 16 extra base hits, including a team and Big Ten leading six triples and five home runs, while snapping her own season stolen bases record with a conference-high 43 and laying down a team-best 15 sacrifice bunts. The shortstop set a new career mark for stolen bases with 85, surpassing Angi Roembke's record tally of 76, and tied the game record for steals with three twice in 2010. In conference play, Horiuchi led the league in triples with two and ranked third in stolen bases with 13. The senior also was been honored for her work off the field as one of 30 candidates for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award and as an Academic All-District V and Academic All-Big Ten honoree for the second straight season.
