BOCA RATON, Fla. - Fielding woes bit the Boilermakers in a 4-2 loss to Liberty Sunday morning. Purdue, which committed three errors leading to three unearned runs, dropped to 12-7 with the loss.

The Lady Flames scored their four runs on four hits and three Purdue miscues, while the Boilermakers posted two runs on six hits. Freshman Molly Garst led the Purdue bats with a 2-for-3 effort.

Sarah Ellis earned the win for Liberty, striking out three in six and a third innings, while Tiffani Smith picked up the save for facing the final two Boilermaker batters. Sophomore Suzie Rzegocki struck out four in the complete game effort for Purdue.

Senior Candace Curtis tallied the game's first hit with a one-out single in the first, but a pair of fielder's choice plays kept the scoreboard blank.

Garst chopped a leadoff single toward third base in the second inning and stole second. A ground out bumped her over to third, but the Boilermakers could not bring her home.

Liberty struck first with a pair of unearned runs on a hit and two errors in the fifth. Beth Bennett drew a leadoff walk and was sacrificed to second before scoring on fielding error by the second baseman. A single to right center by Jenny Law gave the Lady Flames their first hit of the game, while also plating the second run.

The Boilermakers had the tying run on base in the bottom of the inning, but could not manage a score. Junior Ashley Barr deposited a single over the head of the pitcher, before advancing to third on a sacrifice and a ground out. Junior Liane Horiuchi, who represented the tying run, walked to give Purdue runners at the corners with two outs. A high fly ball to right field ended the scoring threat.

The Lady Flames added two more runs in the sixth on a squeeze bunt and a single. A J'nae Jefferson double and a Kayee West bunt single gave Liberty runners at the corners to start the stanza. Bennett then laid down a perfect bunt and the runner beat the throw home. A passed ball moved the base runners to second and third, then Danielle Howard singled to center to make it 4-0. A ground out and pop up prevented further damage.

Senior Alicia Spack kept hope alive for the Boilermakers with a two-run shot to left in the bottom of the seventh. The long ball plated Rzegocki, who drew a lead off walk and was sacrifice over to second, and prompted a Liberty pitching change. Tiffani Smith took over in the circle and forced a pair of fly outs to seal the Flame win.

The Boilermakers look to bounce back in a 1 p.m. contest with Bethune-Cookman.
