Final Stats

TALLAHASSEE, Fla, - The Boilermaker softball team suffered an 8-0 loss at the hands of the host Florida State Seminoles in its final game of the Sunshine Classic. FSU posted eight runs on nine hits and an error, while Purdue managed just three hits in the run-rule shortened contest. Juniors Liane Horiuchi and Ashley Barr each tallied a double in the game.

Sarah Hamilton (2-1) earned the complete game victory for Florida State, while senior Dana Alcocer was charged with the loss after allowing four runs in one and a third innings. Sophomore Suzie Rzegocki and senior Ashley DiDomenico also saw action in the game for Purdue.

Senior Candace Curtis sent a single into right center in the opening stanza to give Purdue its first base runner. Sophomore Beth Cinadr was hit by a pitch, pushing Curtis to second. A fly ball moved the pair into scoring position, but a grounder to the shortstop kept the Boilermakers off the scoreboard.

FSU broke the game open with four runs on three hits and an error in the second. A hit by pitch, single and passed ball on a strikeout loaded the bases to start the inning. Jessica Gilmore drew a walk to put the Seminoles on the board. A one-out error by the shortstop and singles by Carly Wynn and Monica Montez added three more runs. Rzegocki came in to relieve Alcocer in the circle with bases loaded and prompted a foul out and a fielder's choice to escape the inning without further damage.

Horiuchi doubled in the third inning, but a pop up and strikeout nullified the hit.

The Seminoles threatened in the third, loading the bases on a single, a fielder's choice and a hit by pitch, however a fielder's choice and a liner to third base prevented FSU from scoring.

Barr registered a two-out double in the fourth, but was stranded with a strikeout. Horiuchi reached base again in the fifth as she was hit by a pitch with two outs, but a fly ball kept the shutout in tact.

Florida State capped the game with four runs on three hits in the fifth. A walk, a single and a fielder's choice filled the base paths to start the inning. A walk brought one run in. A single to second base and another walk put two more tallies on the scoreboard. DiDomenico entered the game to pitch and allowed a single to center field, which plated the game-clinching run.

Purdue (4-3) returns to action on Saturday, when the team takes on Middle Tennessee State at the Auburn War Eagle Classic in Auburn, Ala.
