Dec. 21, 2009

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue senior Jessica Okoroafo has been named to the Scholar All-Central Region second team by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).

Okoroafo boasts a 3.80 grade-point average, which ties her for the highest GPA on the second team and the third-highest mark among the combined first and second teams. The accounting major from Sylvania, Ohio, was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District V first team for the second time in her career earlier this year.

Okoroafo broke five career records during the 2009 season. Her 35 goals, 16 game-winning goals, 250 shots, 91 games played and 83 games started all rank first in Boilermaker soccer history. Her streak of six consecutive games with a point also tied the program record.

Okoroafo's graduating class, which also includes Jenny Bradfisch, Sylvia Forbes, Loredana Riverso and Katie Seeger, ranks as the winningest senior class in program history. The quintet put together a 58-21-12 mark for a .703 winning percentage to record the most wins and highest winning percentage of any class to pass through Purdue.

The honor marks the second straight season, and fourth in the last five, that the Boilermakers have earned at least one Scholar All-Region selection. Purdue has been awarded 13 total Scholar All-Region nods since 2003.
