WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Forward Jessica Okoroafo was named Tuesday to the Soccer Buzz Great Lakes Region second and all-freshman teams. In her rookie season, the Sylvania, Ohio, native scored 10 goals and provided two assists for 22 points.
Okoroafo also received national recognition from the online magazine, being named to its Freshman All-America second team.
Okoroafo has been one of the most decorated Boilermakers in the program's eight-year history. During the regular season, Okoroafo earned two Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week certificates, was twice named to the Soccer Buzz National Team of the Week, and once selected to the Soccer America Team of the Week.
She was honored three more times at the Big Ten postseason banquet, winning the conference's Freshman of the Year trophy, and receiving spots on its second and all-freshman teams.
Okoroafo's talents also earned her an invitation to train with the U-20 national team in Los Angeles this January.
Okoroafo played a significant role during the Big Ten season, in which the team placed second at 7-2-1. The freshman scored seven of her ten goals against conference foes, including two against both Michigan State and Ohio State.
Purdue's 5-1 win against the Spartans gave the Boilermakers their largest margin of victory against any Big Ten opponent in team history, and their 4-2 triumph over the Buckeyes was their first in five years.
